In 1637 the Thurzo line ended and Adam Forgáč bought the estate from the crown for 182,837 gold florins. Twenty-six years later the world changed: the Ottomans took Nové Zámky in 1663, the Habsburg defensive line lost its strongest point, and the frontier came north to the Váh. Hlohovec stands on the exposed left bank, and the town's own history says it spent the next twenty years under Ottoman control, its parish church used as stables and a chapel turned into a mosque with a minaret. The Habsburg answer went up on the safer bank in plain sight — the star fortress of Leopoldov, built between 1665 and 1669. Both were still there when the Ottoman defeat at Vienna in 1683 pushed the frontier back south.
