In 1241 and 1242 the Mongol armies rode through the Kingdom of Hungary and the settlement at Hlohovec was burned. Putting it back took years: the town's own history says people were still being resettled here between 1242 and 1258. Do not picture a stone castle falling. What stood here in 1241 was an earth-and-timber royal fort, and the lesson the kingdom drew from the disaster was to build in stone instead. The masonry castle that later became the Erdődy château belongs to that rebuilding, not to what the Mongols found.V rokoch 1241 a 1242 prešli cez Uhorsko mongolské vojská a osada pri Hlohovci zhorela.
