The first written mention of the village is from 1263, in the form Chekche; later documents write Chechte in 1276 and 1299, and Csejthe by 1505. Be precise about what such a date means: 1263 is a fact about a piece of parchment, not about when people arrived, and they had been here for millennia. What the date really marks is that the place had become worth recording, because in exactly these decades a stone castle was going up on the ridge above it, in the wave of building that followed the Mongol invasion of 1241. From that moment the two are one story. Dátum v skutočnosti hovorí, že miesto sa stalo hodným zápisu, lebo práve v tých desaťročiach rástol na hrebeni nad ním kamenný hrad, jeden z mnohých, ktoré vznikli po vpáde Mongolov v roku 1241. Odvtedy je to jeden príbeh. Hrad potreboval potraviny, robotu a trh; obec pod ním mu dávala všetko troje a na oplátku mala kam utiecť.
