In 1601 the village had a mill and thirty-eight houses, and ten of those houses were noble curias — the homes of petty gentry who owned a few fields and a name rather than an estate. Villages like that were common in this part of the kingdom: a crowd of small nobles, each with his own patch, none of them rich.
