Banská Štiavnica is the oldest planned industrial landscape in the country and it was planned by hydraulics. The mines flooded, so a system of artificial reservoirs — the tajchy — was built in the hills above with channels feeding water down to power the pumps; the town then grew in the gaps between shafts, spoil heaps and channels, which is why no street in it is straight.Banská Štiavnica je najstaršou plánovanou priemyselnou krajinou na Slovensku a plánovala ju hydraulika. Bane zatápala voda, a tak v kopcoch nad mestom vznikla sústava umelých nádrží — tajchov — s jarkami, ktoré vodu privádzali na pohon čerpadiel; mesto potom rástlo v medzerách medzi šachtami, haldami a jarkami — preto v ňom nie je rovná ulica.

The Baťa shoe company built two complete towns in Slovakia in the 1930s: Svit under the Tatras and Baťovany, now Partizánske, in the Upper Nitra. Both follow the company's standard idiom — flat-roofed red brick on a reinforced concrete frame, standardised family houses in rows, and the works facing the housing across one wide axis, with the school, cinema, hotel and social building between them.Firma Baťa postavila na Slovensku v 30. rokoch dve celé mestá: Svit pod Tatrami a Baťovany, dnes Partizánske, na hornej Nitre. Obe sledujú štandardný firemný jazyk — červená tehla s plochými strechami na železobetónovom skelete, typizované rodinné domy v radoch a závod oproti bývaniu cez jednu širokú os, so školou, kinom, hotelom a spoločenským domom medzi nimi.
