Two Slav settlements were dug up at a place called Húštikom in Veľký Kolačín and dated to the tenth and eleventh centuries — the years in which the Kingdom of Hungary was taking shape around them. Veľký Kolačín and Malý Kolačín went on as ordinary villages for the next nine hundred years, and they are still here: they were joined to Nová Dubnica in 1971 and make up its Kolačín quarter. Veľký a Malý Kolačín potom deväťsto rokov žili ako obyčajné dediny a sú tu dodnes: k Novej Dubnici ich pripojili v roku 1971 a tvoria jej mestskú časť Kolačín.
