Bánovce nad BebravouBánovce nad Bebravou

In 1241 and 1242 the Mongol armies rode through the Kingdom of Hungary, and no record survives of what happened in this particular valley. What the invasion left behind is visible from Bánovce all the same. King Béla IV concluded that a kingdom of wooden forts could not be defended and pushed his nobles to build in stone, and the ruin on the ridge above Uhrovec, a dozen kilometres up the Bebrava, is one of the castles of that century. Be careful with the local version of this story anywhere in Slovakia: most Slovak stone castles were built because of the Mongols, not destroyed by them.V rokoch 1241 a 1242 prešli krajinou mongolské vojská a o tom, čo sa dialo práve v tejto doline, sa nezachoval nijaký záznam.
