Long before anyone cut a stone for a castle, there were people on this crag. Excavation on the hill found traces of a small early-medieval hill fort of the local Slavs — earth, timber and a palisade rather than masonry. No names survive from it and the finds do not give exact dates, so this is one of those entries where honesty means saying how little we know. What it does prove is that the reason for the site was obvious to anybody who ever walked up the Laborec: from the white rock you can see the entire valley, and see it early.Dávno predtým, než tu ktokoľvek otesal kameň na hrad, boli na tomto brale ľudia. Výskum na kopci našiel stopy malého včasnostredovekého slovanského hradiska — hlina, drevo a palisáda, nie murivo. Nezachovali sa z neho nijaké mená a nálezy nedávajú presné dátumy, takže je to jedna z tých kapitol, kde poctivosť znamená priznať, ako málo vieme. Dokazuje však jedno: dôvod tohto miesta bol jasný každému, kto kedy vyšiel dolinou Laborca. Z bieleho brala vidno celú dolinu — a vidno ju včas.
