The wooden church had been quietly rotting for most of a century. In the early 1990s it was taken apart and put back together properly — decayed timber replaced, shingles renewed, and the painted seventeenth-century interior with its Renaissance pulpit of 1654 and its Baroque altar restored rather than repainted, which is a harder and slower thing to do. In 1995 the work received the Europa Nostra award, the European prize for conservation. Notice what had changed: in the 1950s a building like this was a nuisance, and by the 1990s it was the reason people came.Drevený kostol takmer celé storočie ticho hnil.
