The seventeenth century nearly finished the town. Armies crossing to and from Poland plundered as they went — the chronicles blame raiders from the Polish-Lithuanian side — the winters were long, and two great fires burned much of Trstená down. In the same years the whole of Orava rose against the Habsburgs under Gašpar Pika in 1672 and was crushed by imperial troops, with executions staged in public so that nobody would forget them. When a wooden town of this size burns, everything burns: the roofs, the stock, and the charters in the chest.Sedemnáste storočie mesto takmer zlikvidovalo.
