In August 1949 the château was handed over as a holiday home for working people, run by the trade unions, and a government decree of 25 September 1957 made the transfer permanent from that October. The stud farm stayed in state hands and went on breeding, and in the late 1950s European bison — the wisent, the continent's largest land animal, which had been all but wiped out after the First World War — were put into an enclosure in the estate forest as part of the effort to bring the species back. It is a mixed record, and worth thinking about honestly: the regime took away private property and political freedom, and it also kept the manor heated and gave the bison a wood.V auguste 1949 kaštieľ odovzdali odborom ako rekreačné zariadenie pre pracujúcich a vládne uznesenie z 25. septembra 1957 tento prevod od októbra spečatilo. Žrebčín zostal v štátnych rukách a chovať neprestal a koncom päťdesiatych rokov vypustili do obory v panskom lese zubry — najväčšie suchozemské zviera Európy, ktoré po prvej svetovej vojne takmer vyhynulo — v rámci záchrany druhu. Je to rozporuplná bilancia a treba o nej rozmýšľať poctivo: režim vzal ľuďom súkromný majetok aj politickú slobodu, a zároveň udržal kaštieľ vykúrený a zubrom dal les.
