The Reformation reached Gemer fast and the village church has been Lutheran since 1545, less than thirty years after Luther's theses; it was altered in 1612. A parish this small still produced people the wider church noticed: Peter Sextius, born here and dead in 1634, ended his life as a Lutheran superintendent, which is roughly a bishop of the Lutheran church. That was the ladder available to a clever boy from a Gemer village for the next three centuries — the school, the parsonage, and if you were very good, the church hierarchy. Two of the three men this village is known for climbed exactly that ladder.Reformácia prišla do Gemera rýchlo a kostol v obci je evanjelický od roku 1545, necelých tridsať rokov po Lutherových tézach; upravovali ho v roku 1612. Aj taká malá fara vydala ľudí, ktorých si širšia cirkev všimla: Peter Sextius, rodák, zomrel v roku 1634 ako evanjelický superintendent, čo je v evanjelickej cirkvi zhruba to, čo biskup. Práve to bol na ďalšie tri storočia rebrík dostupný bystrému chlapcovi z gemerskej dediny — škola, fara a pri veľkom šťastí cirkevná hierarchia.
