On 10 March 2012 the fire that gutted the castle roofs began in the dry grass of this village's own hillside, and Krásnohorské Podhradie has lived beside a building site ever since; the damage was put at eight million euros and the reconstruction is still going. The honest summary of the place today: a famous silhouette that mostly cannot be entered, a mausoleum and a gallery that can, and a village getting on with its own life underneath.Dňa 10. marca 2012 sa oheň, ktorý zničil strechy hradu, začal v suchej tráve na svahu v chotári tejto obce a Krásnohorské Podhradie odvtedy žije vedľa staveniska; škody vyčíslili na osem miliónov eur a rekonštrukcia stále beží. Poctivé zhrnutie miesta dnes: slávna silueta, do ktorej sa väčšinou nedá vojsť, mauzóleum a obrazáreň, do ktorých sa dá, a dedina, ktorá si pod tým žije svoje.
