In 1945 the Andrássy estate passed to the state and the manor was turned into a museum with its own contents still inside — the single decision that makes Betliar nationally important. The works and the forests were nationalised too, and for forty years the village worked for state enterprises in the Slaná valley and in Rožňava, or commuted further. The Roman Catholic church was restored in 1973. In 1978 the manor park was entered on the international list of significant historic gardens, and in 1985 the whole complex was declared a national cultural monument, which is when the museum, rather than the ironworks, became the thing Betliar was known for.V roku 1945 prešlo andrášiovské panstvo na štát a z kaštieľa urobili múzeum aj s pôvodným zariadením vnútri — jediné rozhodnutie, ktoré robí Betliar celoštátne dôležitým.
