In the second half of the sixteenth century Betliar became an appurtenance of Krásna Hôrka and was run from that castle. A Hungarian account records that from 1557 the village was paying tax to the Ottomans — inside the Kingdom of Hungary, on the king's side of the line, and still buying quiet from the sultan's collectors. The same century brought the Reformation to Gemer, and it took hold here for good: four hundred and fifty years later a quarter of Betliar is still Lutheran, which is as long a shadow as any battle ever cast.V druhej polovici šestnásteho storočia sa Betliar stal príslušenstvom Krásnej Hôrky a spravovali ho z toho hradu.
