The parish church standing in the middle of the square is Gothic, and Slovak monument records date its building to around 1434, on the site of something older. Its tower is the one vertical for miles, and it was as much a statement by the town as a place of worship — a Spiš town's church was paid for by its burghers and showed what they were worth. Later centuries rebuilt and redecorated it, as later centuries always do.
