By the turn of the twentieth century the ironworks had swallowed the town: about 3,500 of Krompachy's 6,500 people worked there, and the plant turned out roughly 85,000 tonnes of iron and over 100,000 tonnes of steel a year. Slovak accounts call it the largest ironworks in the Kingdom of Hungary at the time; more cautious ones call it one of the largest, and the difference is worth noticing rather than settling. In 1889 a small hydroelectric station of 22 kilowatts was built here, one of the earliest electric plants anywhere in what is now Slovakia. Roku 1889 tu postavili malú vodnú elektráreň s výkonom 22 kilowattov, jednu z najstarších elektrární na území dnešného Slovenska.
