Because Krompachy hung off Spiš Castle, its fifteenth century is the castle's fifteenth century. In 1441 the Bohemian captain Ján Jiskra of Brandýs, hired to hold northern Hungary for an infant king, took the castle by arrangement and made it his seat; in 1460 King Matthias Corvinus took it back, and in 1465 it went to the Zápoľský family, who turned it into a great lord's residence. After the Zápoľskýs lost the kingdom, the castle and its domain passed in 1531 to the Thurzos. None of these men ever thought about Krompachy for its own sake — it was a source of ore, labour and dues, which is exactly what a subject village was.Keďže Krompachy viseli na Spišskom hrade, ich 15. storočie je storočím toho hradu.
