On the night of 13–14 April 1950 the Czechoslovak state raided the men's monasteries of the whole country at once — Akcia K, remembered in Slovak as the Barbarská noc, the Barbarian Night. The religious orders were abolished and the Brothers Consolers were taken out of Marianka; the monastery went to the state. The shrine was not demolished, but for the next forty years going on pilgrimage was a tolerated, watched activity that could be held against you. The slate quarries had already closed by then, so within one decade the village lost both of the things it had lived on. What kept Marianka going was the same thing that carried it through 1786: the walk to the well needs neither permission nor an institution.V noci z 13. na 14. apríla 1950 prepadol štát naraz mužské kláštory v celom Československu — akcia K, ktorá sa pamätá ako Barbarská noc. Rehole zrušili a tešiteľov z Marianky odviedli, kláštor pripadol štátu.
