The Slovak National Uprising broke out at Banská Bystrica on 29 August 1944 and held a large part of central Slovakia for two months. It never reached this corner: western Slovakia and Bratislava stayed under the government and then, from the autumn of 1944, under direct German occupation. What did arrive was the front. In the Red Army's Bratislava–Brno offensive Bratislava was taken on 4 April 1945, and in the same days the advance pushed north through the villages under the Little Carpathians; the war ended here in the first week of April, about five weeks before the fighting stopped in Prague.Slovenské národné povstanie vypuklo 29. augusta 1944 v Banskej Bystrici a dva mesiace držalo veľkú časť stredného Slovenska. Sem nedosiahlo: západné Slovensko aj Bratislava zostali pod vládou a od jesene 1944 pod priamou nemeckou okupáciou. Prišiel však front. Červená armáda v bratislavsko-brnianskej operácii obsadila 4. apríla 1945 Bratislavu a v tých istých dňoch postupovala na sever cez obce pod Malými Karpatmi; vojna sa tu skončila v prvom aprílovom týždni, asi päť týždňov predtým, než dobojovala v Prahe.
