After the battle of Mohács in 1526 the Ottomans took the middle of Hungary, and in 1541 Buda itself fell to them. The Paulines' mother house stood near Buda, and around 1540 it was destroyed. The superior general of the order — its head, with houses from Poland to Croatia — moved to Marianka, and this small valley behind Pressburg was the order's headquarters until 1786. It is a good illustration of what the Ottoman conquest actually did to the kingdom: it did not only burn towns, it pushed the country's institutions — the diet, the archbishop, the religious orders — north-west into what is now Slovakia.Po moháčskej bitke v roku 1526 obsadili Osmani stred Uhorska a v roku 1541 padol aj Budín. Generálny predstavený rádu — jeho hlava, s domami od Poľska po Chorvátsko — sa presťahoval do Marianky a táto malá dolina za Prešporkom bola sídlom rehole až do roku 1786. Je to dobrá ukážka toho, čo osmanský zábor s krajinou naozaj urobil: nielenže vypálil mestá, ale vytlačil inštitúcie kráľovstva — snem, arcibiskupa aj rehole — na severozápad, do dnešného Slovenska.
