The village chronicle records the exact minute the war arrived: at half past three on the morning of 1 August 1914 a drum went through the streets announcing general mobilisation. Most of the men who marched off expected to be back in three or four months. From early 1916 food was rationed, grain and livestock were requisitioned at prices that amounted to confiscation, and clothing and soap went on tickets; by 1918 flour that had cost three crowns cost ten, and a pair of shoes two or three hundred. Eight war loans were pressed on the village one after another, and were worth almost nothing when it ended. In 1918, on top of everything, the Spanish influenza reached Častá.Obecná kronika zaznamenala presnú minútu, keď vojna prišla: 1. augusta 1914 o pol štvrtej ráno prešiel ulicami bubon a vyhlásil všeobecnú mobilizáciu. Väčšina mužov, ktorí odchádzali, rátala s tromi či štyrmi mesiacmi. Od začiatku roka 1916 sa jedlo prideľovalo na lístky, obilie a dobytok rekvirovali za ceny, ktoré sa rovnali zhabaniu, a na lístky bolo aj šatstvo a mydlo; do roku 1918 stúpla cena múky z troch korún na desať a topánky stáli dve až tri stovky. Osem vojnových pôžičiek po sebe dedina upisovala takmer nasilu a po vojne z nich nezostalo nič. A v roku 1918 prišla ku všetkému ešte španielska chrípka.
