After 1867 the kingdom was one half of Austria-Hungary, and Kremnica was officially Körmöcbánya, still striking coin for the Hungarian state. The census of 1880 counted 8,550 inhabitants, 72 per cent of them German-speaking: five and a half centuries after the first miners were invited in, this was still a German town, with Hungarian pressing in on its schools and offices as the language of the state. It was not a backward place — in 1889 Bohuslav Križko installed public electric street lighting here, early for anywhere in the kingdom. But the gold was thinning and people were leaving.Po roku 1867 bolo kráľovstvo jednou polovicou Rakúsko-Uhorska a Kremnica sa úradne volala Körmöcbánya; mince pre uhorský štát razila ďalej.
