KremnicaKremnica

In the fifteenth century Kremnica counted, on some reckonings, as the second most important town in the whole Kingdom of Hungary, and it was gold that put it there. The townspeople walled the place and built their castle in the middle of it — not a lord's seat but their own strongpoint, with the parish Church of St Catherine inside the walls, whose presbytery vault carries the date 1488. These were violent decades. The Bohemian companies of Ján Jiskra, hired to hold this country for a child king, garrisoned castles all along the Hron, and the fighting only ended when Matthias Corvinus took the last of their nearby strongholds in 1467.V pätnástom storočí bola Kremnica podľa niektorých hodnotení druhým najvýznamnejším mestom celého Uhorského kráľovstva — a dostalo ju tam zlato. Mešťania mesto opevnili a hrad si postavili priamo doň: nebolo to sídlo pána, ale ich vlastná pevnosť, a vnútri hradieb stál farský Kostol svätej Kataríny, ktorého presbytérium nesie v klenbe letopočet 1488. Boli to násilné desaťročia.
