The oldest surviving mention of Friwald is a charter of 1413 in which Stibor of Stiborice — the Polish-born magnate who held much of the Váh country for King Sigismund — granted the hereditary office of village judge to a man called Michal Valach, for faithful service. A survey of the estate made in 1393 does not list the village at all, which suggests it was still young.
