The Reformation went through Záhorie quickly, and Senica, like its landlords, became Lutheran; the Nyáry family held the estate in this period. Then the Habsburg court and the Catholic bishops began winning the country back, town by town, and in 1654 the parish church in Senica was returned to the Catholics. A change of confession was not a private matter: the lord decided, the church building followed, and the pastor either converted, left or was removed.
