In 1835 the spa was bought by Georg Sina, a Greek banker in Vienna, and the Sina family did to it what nineteenth-century money did to spas everywhere: rebuilt it, modernised it, and made it fashionable. His son Simon put up a hotel and enlarged the park that is still the centre of the town — the bathhouses here stand among mature trees because a nineteenth-century owner planted them. Slovakia's spas were remade in exactly these decades by exactly this kind of owner; Piešťany and Bardejov have the same story with different names in it.Roku 1835 kúpil kúpele Juraj Sina, grécky bankár usadený vo Viedni, a Sinovci s nimi urobili to, čo peniaze 19. storočia robili s kúpeľmi všade: prestavali ich, zmodernizovali a dostali do módy.
