After 1867 the Kingdom of Hungary ran its own internal affairs inside Austria-Hungary, and its governments spent the following fifty years pulling small local rights into the centre and pressing Magyar language and identity on everyone else. In 1886 the Hungarian government simply revoked Považská Bystrica’s municipal privileges — the market and self-government rights the place had held since the Middle Ages. Nothing replaced them. The town would not get its status back until 1946, in a different state altogether.Po roku 1867 si Uhorsko v rámci Rakúsko-Uhorska spravovalo vnútorné veci samo a jeho vlády potom päťdesiat rokov sťahovali drobné miestne práva do centra a presadzovali maďarský jazyk a maďarskú identitu. V roku 1886 uhorská vláda Považskej Bystrici jednoducho zrušila mestské výsady — trhové a samosprávne práva, ktoré mala od stredoveku. Nič ich nenahradilo. Svoje postavenie získalo mesto späť až v roku 1946, už v celkom inom štáte.
