In 1241 the Mongol armies rode through the Kingdom of Hungary, and King Béla IV drew one conclusion from the disaster: build in stone, and build high. The castles strung along the Váh belong to that programme, and the one on the ridge above Považské Podhradie is one of them. The settlement in the valley below appears in writing soon afterwards — a register of the Nitra diocese from 1250 records that a parish already existed here. That is a fact about a document, not about when people arrived; farmers had been working this stretch of the valley long before a clerk wrote it down.V roku 1241 prešli Uhorskom mongolské vojská a kráľ Belo IV. si z katastrofy odniesol jediné poučenie: stavať z kameňa a na výšinách. Hrady rozosiate pozdĺž Váhu patria k tomuto programu a jedným z nich je aj ten na hrebeni nad Považským Podhradím. Osada v doline pod ním sa v písomnostiach objavuje krátko nato — súpis Nitrianskeho biskupstva z roku 1250 uvádza, že tu už fungovala farnosť. Je to však údaj o listine, nie o príchode ľudí: roľníci obrábali tento úsek doliny dávno predtým, ako to niekto zapísal.
