Graves of the Great Moravian period have been excavated at Mnešice, which means a Slavic settlement stood here in the ninth century, when Great Moravia was the state that ruled this country. The Váh was its main road from north to south and the ford here was one of its crossings. Out of that Slavic village grew a market settlement, because a place where two roads meet beside a ford is a place where travellers stop — and where travellers stop, they trade.V Mnešiciach odkryli hroby z veľkomoravského obdobia, čo znamená, že v 9. storočí, keď tejto krajine vládla Veľká Morava, tu stála slovanská osada. Váh bol jej hlavnou cestou zo severu na juh a tunajší brod jedným z jej prechodov. Z tej slovanskej osady vyrástla trhová osada, lebo miesto, kde sa pri brode stretávajú dve cesty, je miestom, kde sa pocestný zastaví — a kde sa ľudia zastavia, tam obchodujú.
