In the old brickworks pit in the Mnešice part of town archaeologists found a loess profile with five layers of human occupation — hearths, stone tools and heaps of stone flakes. The town's own account dates the finds from the lowest layer to around 240,000 years ago, which would put Mnešice among the most important prehistoric sites in Slovakia. The layers above it run on through the Stone and Bronze Ages: spindle whorls and bone awls, cremation urns, bronze bracelets and pins, and a group of Late Bronze Age swords turned up in the gravel workings at Zelená voda. In the Roman centuries there was a mixed Roman-and-barbarian settlement in the town itself.V starej tehelni v mestskej časti Mnešice našli archeológovia sprašový profil s piatimi vrstvami osídlenia — s ohniskami, kamennými nástrojmi a kopami úštepov. Mesto vo vlastných dejinách datuje nálezy z najspodnejšej vrstvy do obdobia asi pred 240 000 rokmi, čím by sa Mnešice zaradili medzi najvýznamnejšie praveké lokality na Slovensku. Vrstvy nad ňou pokračujú cez dobu kamennú aj bronzovú: praslen a kostené šidlá, popolnice zo žiarových hrobov, bronzové náramky a ihlice, a pri ťažbe štrku na Zelenej Vode sa našli meče z mladšej doby bronzovej. V rímskych storočiach stálo priamo v meste rímsko-barbarské sídlisko.
