Czechoslovakia was declared in 1918 and Bojnice found itself in a republic instead of a kingdom. The immediate local effect was practical rather than glorious: the spa had been wrecked by its war service, the Pálffy inheritance was tied up in the courts, and repairs waited. What the new state did do was defend the old count's will — the agreement it reached with his heirs kept a large part of the art collection in the castle instead of at auction. That is the reason there is something to see inside the castle today, and it is a decision a state made, not a family.Roku 1918 vzniklo Československo a Bojnice sa ocitli v republike namiesto kráľovstva. Bezprostredný miestny dôsledok bol praktický, nie slávnostný: kúpele boli po vojnovej službe zdevastované, pálfiovské dedičstvo viazlo na súdoch a opravy čakali. Nový štát sa však zastal starého grófovho závetu — dohoda, ktorú s dedičmi dosiahol, udržala veľkú časť umeleckej zbierky v zámku namiesto na dražbe. Práve preto je v zámku dnes čo pozerať, a bolo to rozhodnutie štátu, nie rodiny.
