October 1914 – 1922 Four hundred dead on the hill aboveŠtyristo mŕtvych na kopci nad dedinou

In October and November 1914 Russian troops under General Brusilov and Austro-Hungarian soldiers fought hand to hand with bayonets on the hill called Horbok, just south-east of the houses; these were among the first battles of the First World War fought on Slovak soil. Four hundred soldiers died within the village's boundaries. The Hungarian authorities made the villagers dig the trenches that held the road, and took the largest and smallest bells out of the church to be melted for the war — the village only replaced them in the second half of the 1920s, the big one paid for by the forester Michal Zelizňák and the small one by a public collection. The dead had been buried where they fell, without rites or markers; in 1922 the Czechoslovak army exhumed them and reburied them in the village cemetery in 39 mass graves, which a modern wooden cross with thirty-nine openings now marks.V októbri a novembri 1914 sa na vrchu Horbok juhovýchodne od domov bili muž proti mužovi na bodáky ruskí vojaci generála Brusilova a vojaci rakúsko-uhorskej armády; boli to jedny z prvých bojov prvej svetovej vojny na slovenskom území. V chotári obce padlo štyristo vojakov. Uhorská štátna moc prinútila dedinčanov kopať zákopy, ktoré držali cestu, a z chrámu dala odobrať najväčší a najmenší zvon na vojnové účely — obec ich nahradila až v druhej polovici dvadsiatych rokov, veľký dal zhotoviť horár Michal Zelizňák a malý sa vyzbieral verejnou zbierkou. Padlých pochovali tam, kde zostali, bez obradu a bez označenia; v roku 1922 ich československá branná moc exhumovala a uložila na miestnom cintoríne do 39 spoločných hrobov, ktoré dnes pripomína moderný drevený kríž s tridsiatimi deviatimi otvormi.
