The larger of the two manor houses, the one that dominates the town, began as a Renaissance building with four corner towers, probably in the seventeenth century, and was thoroughly rebuilt in the Baroque style in the first half of the eighteenth by the Dessewffy family, who then held the estate. It gained a mansard roof, corner towers under bell-shaped caps, windows with segmental pediments and heavy stucco, and a landscape park beside it. Very few country houses of this size in eastern Slovakia came through the twentieth century intact enough to be put back to use. This one did, and it is now the regional museum.Väčší z oboch kaštieľov, ten, ktorý mestu dominuje, vznikol pravdepodobne v 17. storočí ako renesančná stavba so štyrmi nárožnými vežami a v prvej polovici 18. storočia ho dal rod Dežőfiovcov, teda Dessewffyovcov, ktorý vtedy panstvo držal, dôkladne prestavať do baroka. Pribudla mansardová strecha, nárožné veže so zvonovitými helmicami, okná so segmentovými frontónmi a bohatou štukou a vedľa neho krajinársky park. Málo vidieckych sídel tejto veľkosti prešlo na východnom Slovensku 20. storočím tak, aby sa dali znova používať. Tomuto sa to podarilo — a sídli v ňom vlastivedné múzeum.
