At the end of 2015 Giraltovce had 4,146 inhabitants. Most of the socialist factories did not survive the 1990s, the district is among the poorest in Slovakia, and long spells of work abroad are an ordinary part of family life here rather than an exception. What the town still has is its position: the road to the Dukla Pass runs through it, and the wooden churches of the Svidník and Bardejov districts — several of them on the UNESCO World Heritage List — are spread through the villages on either side. Most people who stop in Giraltovce are on their way to those.Na konci roka 2015 mali Giraltovce 4 146 obyvateľov. Väčšina socialistických fabrík deväťdesiate roky neprežila, okres patrí k najchudobnejším na Slovensku a dlhé obdobia práce v zahraničí sú tu bežnou súčasťou rodinného života, nie výnimkou. Čo mestu zostalo, je poloha: prechádza ním cesta k Dukelskému priesmyku a v dedinách na oboch stranách stoja drevené chrámy svidníckeho a bardejovského okresu, z ktorých je viacero na zozname svetového dedičstva UNESCO. Väčšina ľudí, ktorí v Giraltovciach zastavia, je na ceste za nimi.
