The people of Giraltovce joined the anti-Habsburg uprising of Francis II Rákóczi, the last and largest of the Hungarian revolts against Vienna. After the rebel army was beaten at Trenčín on 3 August 1708 the rising began to collapse, and villages that had backed it lost men, animals and grain to reprisals and requisitioning; Giraltovce partly emptied. Wars in this part of the kingdom were rarely fought against a foreign invader. Most often they were Hungarian nobles against the emperor, with villages in between paying for both sides.Obyvatelia Giraltoviec sa pridali k protihabsburskému povstaniu Františka II. Keď bolo povstalecké vojsko 3. augusta 1708 pri Trenčíne porazené, povstanie sa začalo rúcať a dediny, ktoré ho podporili, prišli o mužov, dobytok a obilie pri odvetách a rekvirovaní; Giraltovce sa sčasti vyľudnili. Vojny v tejto časti kráľovstva sa len zriedka viedli proti cudziemu votrelcovi. Najčastejšie to bola uhorská šľachta proti cisárovi — a dediny medzi nimi platili za obe strany.
