The Carpathian front of the First World War ran some thirty kilometres north of here, and Giraltovce got what a town behind a front gets: a military hospital. In its graves lie 64 soldiers who died between October 1914 and April 1915 — 63 of the Austro-Hungarian army and one Russian, buried in the same ground. Those were the months of the winter Carpathian battles, in which both armies lost enormous numbers of men for a few valleys. The small cemeteries scattered across the north-east are what is left of them.Karpatský front prvej svetovej vojny prechádzal asi tridsať kilometrov severne odtiaľto a Giraltovce dostali to, čo dostane mesto v tyle: vojenskú nemocnicu. V jej hroboch leží 64 vojakov, ktorí zomreli medzi októbrom 1914 a aprílom 1915 — 63 z rakúsko-uhorskej armády a jeden Rus, pochovaní v jednej zemi. Boli to mesiace zimných karpatských bojov, v ktorých obe armády stratili obrovské množstvo mužov za pár dolín. Malé cintoríny roztrúsené po severovýchode sú to, čo z nich zostalo.
