The castle had been a ruin for two centuries by 1939, but the road it was built to watch became important again. After the Slovak National Uprising was crushed in the autumn of 1944, German forces occupied the region. The front reached Šariš in the new year: troops of the Soviet 4th Ukrainian Front came down out of the Carpathians and along this very road, and Prešov fell on 19 January 1945, with the villages along the road taken in the same days. From the summit you are looking straight down at the route both armies used.V roku 1939 bol hrad už dve storočia zrúcaninou, no cesta, ktorú mal strážiť, sa opäť stala dôležitou. Po potlačení Slovenského národného povstania na jeseň 1944 kraj obsadili nemecké jednotky. Front prišiel do Šariša v novom roku: vojská sovietskeho 4. ukrajinského frontu zostúpili z Karpát práve po tejto ceste, Prešov padol 19. januára 1945 a dediny popri ceste obsadili v tých istých dňoch. Z vrcholu sa dívate rovno na trasu, ktorú použili obe armády.
