Kapušany CastleKapušiansky hrad

This is the point where a Slovak castle usually gets the story that the Turks destroyed it, and this is where that story is wrong. What was fought here was Hungarian against Habsburg. In 1685 the castle was taken by Imrich Thököly, the Protestant magnate leading a rising against the emperor, and the imperial army took it back the same year. Thököly's rebellion was backed by the Ottoman sultan, which is how the Turks get into the story at all — but the soldiers who actually fought over this rock were the emperor's and the rebels', and both of them were Hungarian subjects.
