After the death of King Albert the kingdom fell into a war over an infant heir, and the Bohemian captain Ján Jiskra held much of what is now Slovakia for the boy king Ladislaus. In 1441 his troops occupied Gemer. This is the moment where local storytelling usually reaches for a ruin, and here that would be wrong: the castle was occupied but not destroyed, and when the garrison marched out it went back to the Bebeks, who kept it until 1566. Hrady menili majiteľov oveľa častejšie, než ich niekto zrovnal so zemou — a kto si to pamätá, číta slovenské hrady o polovicu správnejšie.
