A charter of 1214 names a settlement in this corner of the plain, and the neighbouring village of Chorvátsky Grob counts it as its own first written mention. Some accounts give the same year to Slovenský Grob. The standard gazetteer of Slovak municipalities does not: it says Slovenský Grob was founded in the first half of the sixteenth century and appears in writing for the first time in 1550. Both cannot be true of the same village, and that is worth stopping on, because it shows how history is actually done — a medieval charter names a place, and working out which of today's two villages it means is a separate job involving boundaries, land records and later copies of the document. Obidve tvrdenia naraz platiť nemôžu a oplatí sa pri tom zastaviť, lebo je na tom vidieť, ako sa dejiny naozaj robia – stredoveká listina pomenuje miesto a zistiť, ktorú z dvoch dnešných dedín tým myslí, je samostatná práca s chotármi, pozemkovými zápismi a neskoršími odpismi listiny. Tieto stránky sa držia súpisu a za začiatok obce pokladajú 16. storočie.
