After 1948 the spa was nationalised and pointed at one thing: the heart and the circulation. Bathing in carbonated water widens the small blood vessels in the skin and eases the load on the heart, so Sliač became a cardiac rehabilitation centre, which is still its speciality. At the end of the 1950s the villages of Hájniky and Rybáre and the spa settlement between them were merged into one place called Sliač — sources give 1959 or 1960 — and it was made a town in 1969.Po roku 1948 kúpele zoštátnili a zamerali na jedinú vec: na srdce a cievy.
