29 August 1944 – 14 March 1945 Headquarters and hospitalŠtáb a nemocnica

When the Slovak National Uprising broke out on 29 August 1944, Zvolen was one of its main centres, and the castle was put to work: it served as the headquarters of the 2nd Czechoslovak Partisan Brigade and as a hospital for the wounded. A few hundred metres away the town's railway workshops were welding armoured trains out of ordinary boiler plate — the Štefánik between 4 and 18 September, the Hurban finished on 25 September. German troops broke the centre of the Uprising on 27 October 1944 and the fighters went into the mountains. Zvolen was taken by Soviet and Romanian troops on 14 March 1945. The armoured train standing in the park below the castle today is a replica, built in 1974 as a film prop.Keď 29. augusta 1944 vypuklo Slovenské národné povstanie, Zvolen bol jedným z jeho hlavných centier a hrad dostal úlohu: sídlil v ňom štáb 2. československej partizánskej brigády a zároveň v ňom ležali ranení. Pár sto metrov ďalej zvárali zvolenské železničné dielne z obyčajného kotlového plechu pancierové vlaky — Štefánik medzi 4. a 18. septembrom, Hurban dokončili 25. septembra. Nemecké vojská rozbili centrum Povstania 27. októbra 1944 a bojovníci odišli do hôr. Zvolen obsadili sovietske a rumunské jednotky 14. marca 1945. Pancierový vlak, ktorý dnes stojí v parku pod hradom, je replika z roku 1974, pôvodne filmová rekvizita.
