Look up in the great hall and you are looking at the year 1712. The painted wooden coffered ceiling is divided into 78 panels of Roman kings and Habsburg emperors, laid out in chronological order and ending with Charles VI — a very deliberate statement by the castle's owners about the line of authority they placed themselves under. The ceiling was moved into the hall when the room was rebuilt in 1784, the same campaign that gave the late-Gothic castle chapel its Baroque interior.
