Between the wars the Slovak village itself became a subject: photographers and film-makers went out to record a way of life everyone could see was ending. Karol Plicka (1894–1987) was the most important of them, and a great deal of what is known about old costume, harvest work and village building is known because he was there with a camera — his film about the country year, Zem spieva (The Earth Sings), came out in the 1930s. Today the Prónay manor in Blatnica holds the museum of his work. It is an odd and rather good pairing: a nobleman's house full of photographs of the people who used to farm for him.Medzi dvoma vojnami sa slovenská dedina sama stala témou: fotografi a filmári vyrazili zaznamenať spôsob života, o ktorom bolo každému jasné, že sa končí. Najdôležitejším z nich bol Karol Plicka (1894 – 1987) a veľká časť toho, čo dnes vieme o starých krojoch, žatve či ľudovom staviteľstve, sa zachovala preto, lebo tam stál s fotoaparátom — jeho film o dedinskom roku Zem spieva vznikol v tridsiatych rokoch. V Prónayovskej kúrii v Blatnici je dnes múzeum jeho diela. Je to zvláštne a celkom výstižné spojenie: v panskom dome visia fotografie ľudí, ktorí kedysi na pána robili.
