Around 1539–1540 King Ferdinand I granted Blatnica to the Révay family, who already governed Turiec county from Sklabiňa a few valleys to the north. They were not content with the old walls: in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries they threw large new fortifications and new buildings around the castle. No Ottoman army ever came up the Turiec — the frontier lay far to the south — but the whole kingdom was rebuilding for gunpowder, and a family that ran a county wanted a seat that looked the part. Blatnica and neighbouring Šútovo were both villages of the same Sklabiňa estate.Okolo rokov 1539 – 1540 dal kráľ Ferdinand I. So starými múrmi sa neuspokojili: koncom 16. a začiatkom 17. storočia okolo hradu vybudovali rozsiahle opevnenie a nové budovy. Turecké vojsko sa do Turca nikdy nedostalo — hranica bola ďaleko na juhu —, no prestavovalo sa celé kráľovstvo, lebo delostrelectvo zmenilo pravidlá, a rod, ktorý riadil stolicu, chcel sídlo, na ktorom to vidieť. Blatnica aj susedné Šútovo boli obcami toho istého sklabinského panstva.
