Turzovka was founded Lutheran and is Catholic today, and the change happened within two generations: a Catholic parish is documented here before 1674. Across the seventeenth century the Habsburg monarchy and the Catholic church pushed the Counter-Reformation through Hungary, and the great Lutheran magnate families — the Thurzós among them — died out, converted or lost their estates, taking their churches with them. Exactly how it went in this particular valley is not recorded; the sources for a village less than a century old are thin, and it is more honest to say so than to invent a scene. What is certain is that the switch was decided far above the heads of the people who had to live with it, which is true of most religious change in this period.Turzovka vznikla ako evanjelická a dnes je katolícka — a zmena prišla v priebehu dvoch generácií: katolícka farnosť je tu doložená pred rokom 1674. V sedemnástom storočí presadzovali habsburská monarchia a katolícka cirkev v Uhorsku rekatolizáciu a veľké evanjelické magnátske rody, medzi nimi aj Turzovci, vymierali, konvertovali alebo prichádzali o panstvá — a so sebou brali aj svoje kostoly. Ako presne to prebehlo práve v tejto doline, zapísané nie je; pramene pre obec mladšiu než sto rokov sú chudobné a je poctivejšie to priznať než si domyslieť výjav. Isté je, že o zmene sa rozhodlo vysoko nad hlavami ľudí, ktorí s ňou museli žiť — a to platí o väčšine náboženských zmien tohto obdobia.
