The Mongol armies rode through the Kingdom of Hungary in 1241 and 1242 and destroyed the timber forts they met. Moravany itself appears in no document that early, so nothing honest can be said about what happened on this spot. What can be said is that Tematín Castle, on the wooded ridge of the Považský Inovec a few kilometres north, was built in the thirteenth century as part of the wave of stone castles raised after the invasion, by a generation that had learned expensively what timber walls were worth. Moravany would answer to that castle for the next four hundred years. This is the usual Slovak pattern, and it is worth remembering: the Mongols did not destroy the castles, they caused them.Mongolské vojská prešli Uhorskom v rokoch 1241 a 1242 a drevené hradiská, na ktoré narazili, zničili. Povedať sa dá to, že hrad Tematín na zalesnenom hrebeni Považského Inovca pár kilometrov na sever vznikol v 13. storočí ako súčasť vlny kamenných hradov, ktoré sa po vpáde stavali — postavila ho generácia, ktorá sa draho naučila, čo sú drevené hradby zač. Moravany budú tomuto hradu podliehať ďalšie štyri storočia. Je to typický slovenský vzorec a oplatí sa ho zapamätať: Mongoli hrady nezničili, oni ich spôsobili.
