1918 – 1938 A Czechoslovak market town, and the end of the raftsČeskoslovenské trhové mesto a koniec pltí

Sereď became part of Czechoslovakia in 1918 and stayed what it had been: a market and crossing town of five or six thousand people, with the refinery, the sawmills and the raft port on the Váh. Rafting itself was living on borrowed time. It ended in 1943, when the dam built at Nosice upstream closed the river to timber rafts for good, and a trade that had run since the Middle Ages simply stopped.Roku 1918 sa Sereď stala súčasťou Československa a zostala tým, čím bola: trhovým mestom na prechode cez rieku, s cukrovarom, pílami a pltiskom na Váhu. Pltníctvo malo dni spočítané. Skončilo sa roku 1943, keď priehrada v Nosiciach vyššie na Váhu zavrela rieku pre plte definitívne — a remeslo, ktoré tu žilo od stredoveku, sa jednoducho zastavilo.
