PrievidzaPrievidza
On 26 January 1383 a charter issued in the name of Queen Mary — then a child of about eleven, ruling alongside her mother — gave Prievidza the rights that make a town out of a village. It could hold markets, choose its own mayor and its own priest, build mills, fish the river, sell freely what its craftsmen made, and collect tolls. None of that is decoration: a market meant the villages of the whole basin had to come here to buy and sell, and a toll meant some of the money passing through stayed in the town. The long wide square you walk down today is the shape of that privilege, laid out so that fairs could stand in the middle of it.26. januára 1383 dostala Prievidza listinou vydanou v mene kráľovnej Márie — vtedy asi jedenásťročného dievčaťa, ktoré vládlo spolu s matkou — výsady, ktoré z dediny robia mesto.
